Frank Leon Adams, age 94, of Elberton, Georgia passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, in the company of his family in Cumming, Georgia. He was born on December 26, 1931, in Elberton, Georgia. An only child, he was preceded in death by his father, Frank Lowell Adams and mother, Sara Virginia Matthews Adams of Elberton. He leaves behind a son, Frank Drew Adams; his wife, Mimi and grandchildren, Carter and Ashley of Sarasota, Florida. He also leaves behind a daughter, Sara Kathryn (Katie) Nicholason, her husband, Sean of Cumming, Georgia and grandsons, John, Adam, Colin, William, and Hayden as well as many friends near and far. Leon was a graduate of Elberton High School, class of 1949 and obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia. During the Korean War, Leon served in the United States Air Force, interrupting his undergraduate matriculation at the University. Ever one for adventure, upon discharge from the Air Force, Leon pedaled his English bicycle from Fairchild AFB near Spokane, Washington across the county, to his family’s home in Elberton. A journey of 2,652 miles in 30 days with many nights spent under the stars. Upon graduation from UGA, he signed on with the Coca Cola Corporation and traveled the country as a “spy” before deciding on a career as a commercial real estate appraiser for several banks and savings and loan organizations in the southeast. In his personal life, Leon was an avid Bulldog fan attending home and away games as well as many bowl games, and once his body and eyesight gave way to time, hunkered down in front of TV with the WSB broadcast howling in his ears. When football season was over, he could be found searching for BBQ joints, country diners or at his favorite breakfast table with his buddies. Over his life Leon made many trips with friends and family, rafting down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, Salmon fishing in Alaska, as well as sightseeing in Spain, Canada, and pre-communist Cuba. A teller of tales, Leon’s fondest stories were shared each night with his grandchildren and as they grew, recounting his adventures and sharing advice with all. Services will be held at Berry Funeral Home, 1265 Washington Highway Elberton, Georgia 30635, on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 9:00 AM. A private burial will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery.
