Frank Addicks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann on Jul. 12, 2024.
Frank Marion Addicks passed peacefully into the presence of God on July 10, 2024. The second son of Gilbert Reinhardt Addicks, Sr. and Mary Ann Ickert Addicks, he was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 24, 1940. He graduated from West High School in 1958 where he was a leader for student government as well as the football, basketball and baseball teams. Along with his brother Buddy, he coached for and helped start Sequoyah Little League Baseball. He and his brother co-founded a summer day camp that became Webb School Day Camp for boys.
Frank entered the University of Tennessee in fall of 1958, and his blood has runneth orange ever since. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Inspired by his enterprising grandfather Frank "Pop" Marion Whitfield, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and from there pursued his lifelong calling and career as a Certified Public Accountant. In 1970, he "hung out his own shingle" to form his CPA practice and enthusiastically advised clients with compassion and integrity. His son Whit and colleagues now continue his legacy as Addicks CPA Firm LLP.
Frank was very proud to be a lifelong Knoxvillian and Tennessean and enjoyed leading many adventures in the mountains with second homes over the years in both Elkmont, Tennessee and Highlands, North Carolina. He treasured and supported all things American, and so it is fitting that his passing coincided so closely to the Fourth of July.
Though Frank's financial acumen and skill with numbers were truly outstanding, his storytelling abilities and his knack for remembering details about people, their history, and their families were legendary. This rare combination of charisma and personality as well as deliberation and analytical thinking was invaluable to his practice and to the many organizations that he served in leadership including Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, McNabb Center, Rotary Club of Knoxville, Tennessee Valley Fair, East Tennessee Foundation, Friends of the Smokies, Red Cross, Sigma Chi House Corporation, Cherokee Country Club and Highlands Country Club.
Frank is survived by his wife of 60 years and the love of his life since their West High School days Peggy Register Addicks; his daughter Margaret "Mimi" Addicks Decker and husband John Allen Decker of Atlanta and his son Frank Whitfield Addicks and wife Rachel Robbins Addicks of Knoxville; his grandchildren Frank Allen Decker, John "Jay" Edward Decker, Lucy Marion Addicks and Carter Whitfield Addicks; his sister-in-law Suzanne Addicks; his brother-in-law Edward Register; and his beloved nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Gilbert Reinhardt Addicks, Sr. and Mary Ann Ickert Addicks and brother Gilbert Reinhardt Addicks, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, July 16 in the Sanctuary at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. A reception and receiving of friends will follow in the River Room at Cherokee Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, Helen Ross McNabb Foundation or Friends of the Smokies.
