Gay Barry Clapp

Gay Barry Clapp (January 13, 1938 – March 24, 2026), of Corryton, Tennessee, passed away surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and educator. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Franklyn Barry and Margaret Yann Barry, and her brother, Lynn Barry, Nephew Trip Barry.

Gay is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Larry Edward Clapp; her children, Larry Clapp (Stacie), Tonya C. DeLozier (Joe), and Barry Clapp (Angela); her grandchildren, Casey Yates, Amanda Worthen (John), Andrea Clapp , Christopher (Erin), and Micah DeLozier (Ashley); her great-grandchildren, Halle Christian (Zach), Cole Worthen, Isaac Worthen, Maddie Stewart, Avery Clapp, Cade Clapp, Pippen Yates, Guy DeLozier, and Levi DeLozier; Nieces Sarai Daniels, (Henry), Leslie Richardson (JR), Lanie Ehlinger and many sweet Great Nieces and nephews.

Gay earned a degree in music from Carson-Newman College and a Master's Degree in Library Science. She began her teaching career in Broward County, Florida, where she taught junior high music and directed the "Rebel 100" chorus. She later taught middle school for 35 years in Gibbs, Corryton, Vestal, and Halls, impacting generations of students.

She enjoyed ceramics, creating porcelain dolls, quilting with the Smoky Mountain Quilt Club, and served as a two-time past president of the Rocky Top Decorative Painters. She also loved playing Rook and teaching card making at the Corryton Community Center. Her music, her kindness, and her love will live on in all who knew her.
