With great joy, we are pleased to announce that Frank Ronald Camacho has gone home with Christ! Frank, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, social justice activist, pioneering Mexican-American news anchor, Catholic, and baseball enthusiast, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at the age of 75. Frank was born on September 15, 1949, and he dedicated his life to his family and friends.
Frank was a former news anchor and journalist in Phoenix, AZ, best known for his 30+ years at KPHO and KTVK-TV. With humble beginnings, he was born in Laveen, AZ, to a cotton farmer and housewife. In an industry traditionally dominated by white Americans, he was one of the first Mexican-American news anchors in Arizona, embodying the ultimate underdog. He began his career in radio at KRUX in 1975 and KTAR in 1978, both in Phoenix, Arizona. Later during his time at KTVK-TV, he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues due to his impactful news stories, extensive knowledge, valuable experiences, and friendly demeanor. His interview style and communication skills were objective, intelligent, and witty. He interviewed dignitaries such as Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, John Kerry, and numerous other political figures. However, his favorite interviews were undoubtedly with the everyday people of Arizona. A few of Frank's most distinguished awards include the following: the NATAS (National Television Academy) Silver Circle Award (2007), the Arizona Hispanic Community Forum's Media Award (2006-2007), Arizona Interfaith Movement Golden Rule Honoree Media Award (2006), Arizona State University's Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano De Aztlan's Semana Cultural Presenter Award (1999), and many more. Frank was passionate about the San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks and enjoyed a wide range of music. He loved discussing sports, politics, spirituality, religion, and his family. In fact, Frank liked talking about everything imaginable!
Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Margie Camacho, and children: Frank Camacho Jr. and daughter-in-law Jennifer Brewer, Matthew Camacho and daughter-in-law Jaime Camacho, Melissa Camacho, Ana Camacho Hansen and son-in-law Eric Hansen, Marlo Brown and son-in-law Brad Brown, and Mark Perry and daughter-in-law Michelle Perry. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Elizabeth Camacho, Jacob Camacho, Christopher Camacho, Sarah Camacho, Emily Camacho, Jaidon Hansen, Ben Brown, Mia Brown, Melia Perry, and Obi-Wan Kenobi Camacho (the family dog). Frank cherished every moment spent with his family. He took great joy in being with his children and grandchildren, creating treasured memories that will forever live in their hearts.
A celebration of Frank's life will be announced soon, inviting family and friends to share their favorite memories while honoring the legacy he leaves behind.
In place of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Frank's favorite organizations: the Cancer Research Institute, Hospice of the Valley, and the Kino Border Initiative. These choices demonstrate his unwavering commitment to assisting others, showcasing not only his dedication but also the various ways he actively sought to make a positive impact in his community. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Valley and HonorHealth Research Institute for their support. They request privacy during this important transition. Thank you, and may God bless you.
