Frank Coomes 81, of
Richland, Indiana passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. Francis Thomas Coomes was born August 22, 1944 in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late Jake and Agnes Knott Coomes, was married to the former Virginia Louise Keown on February 14, 1962, and was better known as 'Frank' to both his family and friends. Frank lived a life rich with simplicity, hard work, and joy. His journey on this earth spanned a fruitful 81 years, during which his gentle spirit and unwavering integrity touched countless lives.
Frank's dedication to his profession was evident to all who knew him. As a farm laborer, he spent his entire life working the land with a sense of pride and respect for nature's bounty. His hands, though weathered from years of toil, were always ready to help a neighbor or cradle a newborn grandchild with equal tenderness.
Frank's actions spoke volumes about his character. He found solace and joy in the great outdoors, whether he was casting a line into a serene lake, navigating trails on his trusty golf cart, or spending a quiet evening by the campfire under the stars. In his earlier days, Frank was an avid horseback rider, often found alongside Louise as they enjoyed their shared passion for square dancing. The rhythmic beats of the music and the laughter they shared during those dances will echo in the hearts of their loved ones. Frank was also skilled in the art of skeet shooting, a hobby that allowed him to demonstrate his precision and patience.
Frank's legacy is not merely in the work he accomplished or the hobbies he enjoyed but in the love he gave and the strength he showed in every aspect of his life. His presence was a comforting constant, a source of stability and warmth for his family. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told around dinner tables and the lessons passed down to younger generations.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Louise Coomes, who died April 7, 2024; a son, Larry Coomes; a grandson, Caleb Smith; and a brother, Anthony Coomes.
Frank is survived by a son, Tommy Coomes (Brenda Crouch) of Vincennes, Indiana; three daughters, Janice Young (Lorne) of Hatfield, Indiana, Kathy Smith (Al) of Francesville, Indiana, and Nicole Thomas (Brent) of Rockport, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, Oliver Scott (Malena), Clayton Scott (Pui), Robert Scott, Jennifer Evans (Nick), Jake Coomes, Danny Goodwin (Misty), Ryan Smith (Sarah), Kyle Smith (Sarah), Levi Smith, Charles Harrelson (Kinzie), and Andrew Harrelson; eighteen great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Lillieanne, Dakota, Lena, Frankie, Brayden, Meadow, Sage, Michael, Addison, Daniel, Kailyn, Colton, Ruby-Jo, Eva, and Jack; a great-great-granddaughter, Emily; three brothers, David Coomes (Debbie) of St. Joesph, Kentucky, Robert Coomes (Carla) of Vincennes, and Thurman Coomes of Owensboro; and two sisters, Sarah Ann Dant (Henry) of St. Joesph and Janice Horton (Owen) of Wheatland, Indiana.
