Frank D'Alessandro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 24 to May 28, 2023.
Frank DAlessandro, father, son, brother, and friend died on March 29, 2023. He was 70 years old.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandi D'Alessandro, his father Louis Joseph D'Alessandro, and his favorite pup Miles.

Frank was born in Passaic, NJ and lived in Saddle Brook, NJ until he left for college. He first attended Tarkio College in Missouri on a football scholarship. Frank's athleticism later led to bodybuilding and a lifelong interest in fitness. Frank then attended the University of Richmond where he majored in Art. He was artistically talented and loved sketching portraits and surrealistic landscapes in colored pencil.

Once he moved to Roanoke in the early 70s his artistic talents, creative mind, and love for working with his hands provided the foundation to start his own construction company. As a builder he held himself to the highest standards, and his projects showcased the pride he had in his work and his knowledge as a skilled craftsman. Frank had a successful career for decades in Roanoke building both residential and commercial projects. He was truly a self-made man. In addition to his career as a builder, he served proudly as a Roanoke City firefighter in the 80s and 90s where he worked alongside men and women who would become lifelong friends.

Frank was passionate about music and was lucky to grow up near New York City, being exposed to concerts by rock, blues, and jazz greats. In August 1969 he traveled with friends to Bethel, New York to join the festivities at Woodstock. Frank enjoyed introducing his Roanoke friends to many of the artists he saw there. He never lost this passion and continued to collect music and introduce friends and family to new artists throughout his life.

He is survived by his mother Antoinette D'Alessandro, his brothers Louis Dominick D'Alessandro and Tony D'Alessandro (sister-in-law Joyce), his children Erin D'Alessandro (son-in-law Rob), Frank D'Alessandro Jr. (daughter-in-law Casey), Brian Chadwick (daughter-in-law Misty), and grandchildren Charlotte, Hudson, Sam, Nash, and Valentina, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Our family sends a special thank you to Lisa Jacobson for her knowledge, friendship, and devoted care over the last two years.

Please join us for a celebration of life at the Montano's banquet hall from 12:30-3pm on Saturday, June 17th.

Frank and Sandi were dear friends and neighbors in Belden Woods. We have fond memories of them walking Miles when he was a young pup. We send our sympathy and condolences to the family. Fred & Donna Hall
