Navy Captain Frank Michael Gallic was an accomplished military officer of over 30 years, a husband to Judith Gallic, a father, a grandfather, an innovative farmer, chef, woodworker and dear friend to so many in
Boise, Idaho and beyond. Frank was born on August 1, 1948, in Washington DC to Frank and Ruth Gallic.
Frank spent his early years fishing, exploring, farming and woodworking on his parents' property in beautiful, Berkley Springs, West Virginia. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. His Naval career started in August of 1972 in Pensacola, Florida and he was commissioned an Ensign through the Aviation Officer Candidate program and was designated a Naval Aviator in December 1973. Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron HS-11 was Captain Gallic's first assignment, with deployments to the Mediterranean and North Atlantic aboard the aircraft carrier John F Kennedy.
In February 1977 he was selected for Navy Test Pilot School, and he was assigned to the Personnel Exchange Program with the Royal Navy in July of 1981, where he flew the MK III and MK V Sea King helicopter in squadrons based in Culdrose, England and Prestwick, Scotland. In October 1983 Captain Gallic returned to the USA and was stationed, in San Diego, California where he was a Commander to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron HSL-41. In 1986, he served as Officer-in-Charge of HSL-44 assigned to the Middle East providing continuous surface surveillance. In 1989, he served as an Executive Officer to HSL-43 and assumed squadron command in 1990. Following his initial command tour, he joined the USS New Orleans (LPH-11), deployed in the Persian Gulf in support of Desert Storm as the Air Boss. Captain Gallic then assumed the role of Commanding Officer of the USS Tripoli, the "Famous Fighting Ship" on its 16th Western Pacific Deployment during Operation Support Hope in Mombasa, Kenya. Captain Gallic assumed Command of the Amphibious Squadron 3 (Phibron 3) in 1995 and served as a Commodore / Senior Captain of ships including the USS Tarawa and a fleet of other ships in the Amphibious Readiness Group. In 1997, Captain Frank Gallic served as Chief of Staff in Bahrain for the 5th Fleet covering 2.5 million square miles across the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and Arabian Sea. For Frank's service he was awarded four (4) Legion of Merit decorations, two (2) Meritorious Service Medals and two (2) Navy Commendation Medals.
After Frank's illustrious service career, he retired to
Boise, Idaho with his wife, Judy Gallic, who he was proudly married to for 55 years. In Boise, Frank loved to farm the land, can a variety of incredible products while inventing different recipes, develop his friendships and continue to mentor and advise with ceaseless energy and foresight for the last nineteen (19) years.
Frank is survived by his wife, Judy Gallic, his daughter Shaina Hollis and his two sons, Scott Gallic and Nathan Gallic. Frank was also a proud and loving grandfather to Van Gallic, Cade Hollis (2010 – 2021), Swell Gallic, Isabella Gallic, and Juliet Hollis.
