David Brian Hammer

February 20th, 1953 - February 3rd, 2026

Dave Hammer was born on February 20th, 1953, in Lewiston, Idaho, alongside his identical twin brother Dan, to his parents Ralph and Shirley Hammer. Dave grew up in Boise where he attended St. Mary's Catholic School and then graduated from Boise High School in 1971. Our dad was a dedicated father and grandfather, working hard to provide for his family. He spent 40 years working for Baird's Dry Cleaners, where he had many customers that loved him dearly. He was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, who left a lasting impact on everyone that knew him.

Our dad enjoyed coaching little league baseball when his boys were young, baking his delicious chocolate chip cookies, golfing, camping and watching his beloved Chicago Cubs, a passion he shared with his sons and daughter. He had the best sense of humor and was known for his fake wave while pulling down his sun visor, cracking himself up with how many people he could get to wave back only for them to see he wasn't actually waving at all. Something he still did after he retired.

Dad, we will miss you immensely. You were our "go-to" when life got rough, and our first phone call to share an exciting moment or accomplishment. You were someone we could always count on, and our comfort when we needed clarity. Every visit with the grandkids ended with an "I love you" and many hugs and kisses. Every phone call ended with "tell those grandbabies I love them." Even when they were no longer babies, they were always his grandbabies. He always made time for his family.

He is survived by his sons Robert and James (Carly), and daughter Angela; his grandkids Allison, Abigail, Gavin, Samantha, Hadley and Scarlett; as well as his twin brother and best friend Dan, sisters Sally, Theresa, Patty, Mary, and brother Joe; in addition to many extended family members and friends that will miss him dearly.

We find comfort in knowing that our dad's legacy lives through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

A celebration and tribute to his life will be held at The Cremation Society of Idaho, 5541 Overland Road, Boise, on February 27th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
