With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear father, Frank Henry Kreft, who left us on New Year's Day, 2025 at the age of 75. Frank was a devoted father (dad), loving grandfather (K-pa), and cherished friend (Cheesy), whose boundless enthusiasm for life and deep love for the people around him, defined the way he lived with his heart on his sleeve.
As a father, Frank took great pride in his three children-Jennifer, Steven, and Allyson-and delighted in being a loving grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Vincent, Roark, Nels, Colton, Russel, Elysia, and Orion. His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He even would travel up and down the east coast to spend birthday days with each grandkid until they became too numerous, and too concentrated in the calendar, to physically be in two places at once.
East Coast travel was a way of life for Frank as he grew up in Dearborn, MI just outside of Detroit, then was stationed in in the Air Force in Cocoa Beach, Florida and ultimately raised his family in Jacksonville, while eventually returning to Dearborn to care for his parents.
With a lifestyle on the go, Frank naturally built a distinguished career as a computer programmer specializing in transportation systems, with a particular focus on the railroad industry. His expertise was not only pivotal to the success of North American rail, but his talents extended internationally with significant contributions to transportation infrastructure projects in New Zealand and Thailand. Frank's dedication to his craft left a lasting impact on global transportation systems.
Beyond his career, Frank lived life with great passion. He found joy in fishing, watching western movies (particularly John Wayne) and rooting for all teams from Detroit and the University of Michigan. Whether casting a line into one of his favorite fishing holes or cheering for one of his favorite teams, Frank fully embraced each moment of life to its fullest. His infectious warmth, sense of humor, and adventurous spirit always drew friends and family near.
As an avid fisherman, water always held a special place in Frank's heart. Whether he was deep-sea fishing up and down the Atlantic coast, or hooking into a yellow perch in Deep Creek Lake, or landing a largemouth bass out of the waters of Disney World, or snagging a turtle on a hot dog in his own lake in Interlachen, he felt a deep connection to nature's waters. These moments of peace and tranquility were among his greatest joys.
Generosity was at the core of Frank's being. He gave freely of his time, talents, and love, always there for his family, friends, and anyone in need. While caring for his mother, who was suffering from dementia in Dearborn, Frank ran a "Second Son" handyman business. Many seniors in the local community were dependent on his services yet he only charged them a mere pittance. His kindness, compassion, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his three children and seven grandchildren, Frank is survived by his brother, Tony, sister-in-law, Margaret, and his former wife, Margaret. He will always be remembered for the passion, devotion, and love he poured into every aspect of his life. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Frank will be dearly missed, but his legacy of having a big, generous heart will remain with us forever. Rest in peace, Dad. We love you.
Jennifer, Steven, and Allyson

My sympathies to Frank's family and friends. I went to High School with Frank at St. Alphonsus ( St. Al's) in Dearborn, class of '67. Frank ran track and was good at it. He also played football Senior year and broke his leg. May he rest in peace. Ken Joswiak

So saddened to hear of Franks passing. We lost touch but our family will be forever grateful of the training, passion and amazing skills of the railroad he passed on to my husband Gene Hartley. Many prayers, thoughts and sympathy to Margaret and the family. May he rest in peace. Tammy Hartley Jax FL
