Frank Anthony Landgraff, 83, of
Greenville, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Francis and Martha Masters Landgraff.
Known by his friends and family as "Lanny", he grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He proudly served in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After a successful early career in the aluminum can business, he decided to become his own boss and worked to become a McDonalds franchisee. After getting his start at McDonalds in Georgetown SC, he moved to Greenville in the mid-1980s to own and run several Greenville McDonalds.
He fell in love with Greenville and jumped into civic activity with both feet and quickly became embedded in the local community. He served in a number of ways, including as the Chair of the YMCA Camp Greenville Board, the Chair of the Greenville Memorial Hospital System Board, the Chair of the Clemson Board of Visitors and a member of the Urban League's Advisory Board.
He was most proud of his instrumental role in bringing the Ronald McDonald House to Greenville. His vision for the Ronald McDonald House and his insistence that it be located within sight of Greenville Memorial Hospital so families could "keep an eye on their loved ones" has helped countless families through tough times. Lanny was named the Volunteer of the Decade in 1999 and was a charter member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Board of Directors. In recognition of his tireless effort, Governor Jim Hodges awarded Lanny the Order of the Silver Crescent in 2000.
Lanny touched many people throughout his life. He was quick with a joke and a smile and enjoyed dear friendships throughout his full life. He loved to hold court during his famous Super Bowl parties where he occasionally was able to cheer on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.
Frank was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
He is survived by his sons, Frank Landgraff (Gillian) and Chris Landgraff (Eileen Dordek); and his beloved companion, Mary Kay Kelly.
