Frank James Majewski (aka Fred, Fred the Guide, Black Cat, Big Fish Frank and Magoo), of Peru, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. He lived 89 years full of love, success, and happiness.
Private family services will be held with full military rites conducted by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Born on May 20, 1936, in Springfield, Frank was the beloved son of the late Frank Majewski Sr. and Bernice (Cox) Verry. He married the love of his life, Doris Marie Stone, on June 5, 1955, in Mason County, Illinois. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
Frank proudly served in the United States Air Force from June 1954 to 1958. After his military service, he dedicated his professional life to the insurance industry, working for Rockford Life, Liberty Mutual, and Country Companies.
A true outdoorsman, Frank found joy in nature and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He especially loved family vacations to Kentucky Lake, Door County, and Vegas. He enjoyed spending time at John's Place, where laughter and stories were always in abundance. He lovingly devoted 30 years of his life coaching Peru youth baseball teams.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Doris; his children, Steve (Lynn) Majewski and Susan Hassler; his grandchildren, Christie (Jon) Freas, Melissa Freas, Jessica (Steve) Varnes, Justin (Kendel) Hassler, and Sarah (Kevin) Gabrielse; and his great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Freas (Ben Tegeler), Haleigh Freas, Ashlei Behrens, Matthew Gabrielse, Addison Gabrielse, Levi Freas, and Francesca Hassler. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Verry.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Bernice; and his sister, Sandy Hoon.
Frank will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his warm sense of humor, his deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures, and burning the porkchops. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Frank's name to support dementia research.
