It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank A. Miri, 87 years old of Island Heights New Jersey. Frank passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was a cherished husband, devoted father, and loving grandfather. His life was a tapestry of love, passion, and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know him.
Frank was born in Manhattan, and grew up in the Bronx, later moving as a young child to Jackson, New Jersey. He enjoyed a childhood with a mix of the city streets and the country roads. He attended Lakewood High School, graduated from Rutgers University with a Liberal Arts Degree in the Romance Languages, and later a Master's Degree in Education.
Following his graduation from Rutgers, Frank was a teacher at Switlik Elementary School where he was once a student. He was the first student in Jackson to return as a teacher to the school he once attended. He swiftly moved on to become Vice Principal, and later Principal of Switlik Elementary School. Frank was also Principal at Lucy N. Holman Elementary School and Howard C. Johnson Elementary School.
Frank enjoyed a successful thirty-four year career in the Jackson School System, as a devoted and caring educator and leader. Education was a cornerstone of Frank's life. He believed in the transformative power of learning.
After retiring Frank enjoyed many hobbies and activities. He loved nature and anything outdoors. He filled his time with hunting, golfing, boating, motorcycle riding, gardening and many sunny days at the beach. Other passions of Frank's were his love for the world of books, and a deep appreciation for classic movies.
Above all, Frank was a family man. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was boundless. He was the anchor of the family, providing unwavering support, wisdom, and love.
Frank is survived by his wonderful wife of sixty-five years, Isla D. Miri (nee Linz), his adoring daughter, Doreen T. Miri, and his loving son, Frank N. Miri & his wife Colleen, his cherished grandchildren, Frank A. Miri II & his wife Jessica, Lauren N. Miri & her fiancé John Wagner, and Nicholas S. Miri, and his siblings Lauretta M. Pillitteri, and John N. Miri & his wife Kathleen. He also leaves behind a niece, four nephews and a host of friends, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Frank was predeceased by his father and mother, Frank N. Miri and Jean T. Miri, and his brother Joseph A. Miri.
As we celebrate Frank's life, we remember the joy he brought into our lives, the values he instilled in us and the love he shared so freely. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
A viewing will be held on March 14th at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, Toms River from 4:00-8:00. Mass will be celebrated the following day, March 15th at 9:00 at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Toms River.
