Frank Murphy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midtown Funeral Home and Cremation Options from Jul. 10 to Jul. 11, 2023.
Frank William Murphy, age 74, of Chicago, passed away peacefully at his home in Portage Park on June 17,2023. Frank fought a courageous battle for nearly 6 years after a debilitating stroke in September of 2017. Frank was born to loving parents (the late Frank and Mary, nee Grana) on March 28, 1949. Although he planned on being a P.E. Teacher, Frank left Andrews University and became a Pipefitter in Local 597. His career lasted 30 years and he then joined IATSE Local 110. His love and talent for sports ranged from bowling, hockey, weightlifting, and most important to him, baseball. Frank's deepest friendships were formed playing hardball with the Oak Lawn Yaquis for over 25 years and Chicagoland Roy Hobbs Over 30 Baseball. Frank was also a stage actor, Off-Loop and a preferred extra in "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D." television series. He also showed his talents by playing an amazing guitar at the Old Town School since the 90's. Frank is survived by Vera DeGiorgio, his devoted wife and partner of 36 years. Both are graduates of Hubbard High School (class of 1967) and reunited at their 20th Reunion. He is also survived by his younger sister, Kathleen (Dean) Little of Greensboro, N.C.; caring father of Frank and Bryan (Julia); loving uncle of 11 and great uncle of 4; Best buddy and bodyguards Rigby and Jude. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 14 from 3:00pm until 9:00pm at the Midtown Funeral Home and Cremation Options, 3918 West Irving Park Road, Chicago. Final committal Saturday, July 15, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1400 S. Wolf Road, Hillside. Please gather at the office at 10:45am. Dear Vera,
We are thinking of you at this time and pray for peace and comfort. Frank was such a kind soul. We were blessed to be his friend. He is playing his favorite game with all the greats who went before him. May he rest in peace.

Love, John and Kathy.

Dear vera., I am so sorry for your loss of dear Frank. He was such a great guy and a wonderful friend. He had so many interests and was good at so many sports. I remember the hockey days, very vividly and all of the softball games. I think we saw every play that he was ever in and he was a wonderful actor. He loved people, and he loved life. He certainly lived it to the fullest! He will be missed by us and many people. sending you much love and hugs Vera. Becky & Ralph
