Frank Maurice O'Mara

Frank Maurice O’Mara, 63, passed away December 12, 2023, at his home in Elk City Kansas. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday February 9, 2024, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory.

 

Frank is survived by his Mother Minnie Jeanean O’Mara (Jeanie) of Lakehills Texas, his sister Marsha Blanke, of Lakehills Texas, His Aunt Sharon Crowell and Aunt Janet Fox of Independence Kansas, a nephew, and a niece. He was preceded in death by his wife Cathy Ann O’Mara, his Father Dean O’Mara, and his sister Jenell.

   He was born April 5, 1960 at Ellsworth Kansas. His family moved to Kansas City Kansas, then to Blue Springs Missouri, where he graduated high school in 1978. Then they moved to Independence Kansas. Frank moved to Elk City, and married Cathy Kuchkelhan, July 17, 1993. Frank worked as a meat cutter, then he became a nurse at a nursing home in Independence Kansas, where he was able to take care of his Great Grandmother Nettie Rothgeb. Then in 2017 he became the Grounds Specialist at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Elk City Kansas.

Frank liked to draw ever since he was a small child. He also enjoyed fishing with his family, and playing with his dog, Shaddy poo. In 1966, At the age of six, his picture of a freight train hung in the Nelson Art Gallery in Kansas City, Kansas for a year. In December of 2010 one of his rock carvings was displayed in the custom Motorcycle magazine Thunder Road. He started working with sandstone rock after he moved to Elk City. His rock sculptures embrace many yards.

 As a child, Frank liked to invent things with his Erector Set. He made a contraption that had a string between two devices. When the string was tripped, it made a loud noise. He put it on the floor in front of his bedroom door. First, he called the dog, and scared Shaddy Poo so bad, the dog wouldn’t go back into his room that night. Then he scared both his sisters and made them yell. Then, he set the device up at night before he went to bed, and when he got up the next morning, he tripped it off and scared himself.
