Frank J. Rauschenberger, 90, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Born in Gakovo, Yugoslavia, he immigrated with his father Hans and his mother Magdelena to Caldwell, NJ. He grew up in Caldwell and graduated from JCHS in 1953. He graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Hotel Restaurant Management in 1957. Frank proudly served our country as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He managed hotels and restaurants in California, Washington DC, and New York. Settling back in Caldwell and eventually opening his own restaurant Hester Prynne’s in 1974. In 1984 Frank married Margaret (Peggy) Funsch and they resided in Fairfield for 18 years before moving to Sunrise Bay Retirement Community in Little Egg Harbor, NJ.
Frank loved singing in the choir at St. Theresa’s Church. He was a member of the VFW, loved fishing, golfing, dancing, and was a sports enthusiast especially the Giants and Yankees.
Frank was predeceased by his wife Margaret “Peggy” Rauschenberger, daughter Mary Ward, stepson David Funsch, son-in-law Michael McCoy and grandson Craig Waldron Jr.
He is survived by his loving children Patricia Vandigriff (John), Kathleen McCoy, and Michael Rauschenberger, Brothers, William Rauschenberger, John Rauschenberger (Barbara).
Step-children Lisa Funsch (David), Kathleen Waldron (Craig), Douglas Funsch (Susan), Eileen Mital (Ray), Diane Thiede (Bill).
Grandchildren, Kayla, Kyle, Nicole, Eric, Kristen, Shaun, Paige, Jake, Kaitlyn, Jaclyn, Ryan, Kensie, Peyton; Great grandchildren, Aidyn, Lucas, Charlie, Amelia, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday October 17th, 2025 from 9-10:30am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd. Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. A Funeral Mass will be held immediately following the visitation at 11am at St. Theresa’s R.C. Church 450 Radio Rd. Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087 followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin, NJ.
