Frank A. Schneider, age 97, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, in Yakima, Washington, surrounded by his loving family.
Frank was born and raised in
Fort Yates, North Dakota, the oldest of 7 kids. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. In his working years, he was employed in the building and maintenance department for the railroad and later worked as a Plant Operator at the Hanford Nuclear Plant.
Frank was the true patriarch of his family-the steady, faithful heart at the center of generations. A devoted Catholic and lifelong member of St. Paul Cathedral in Yakima, he lived his life in service to God and others. His faith was not only practiced but shared; Frank was known for praying faithfully for his loved ones during life's challenges, offering comfort and reassurance through both words and action. He was deeply dedicated to his church and well known in the community, including for his frequent and
passionate letters to the local newspaper.
Outgoing, joyful, and unmistakably fun, Frank had a gift for connecting with people. Wherever he went, he was liked-and often loved-by everyone he met, from lifelong friends to caregivers and nurses who quickly fell under his charm. His cheerful spirit, sense of humor, and unmistakable goofiness brought laughter to every room. Family members fondly remember his harmonica playing, his perfectly organized garage with every tool in its place, and his playful attempts to sneak a sip of alcohol to willing
grandchildren. He was a fun and engaged grandpa, always encouraging, whether teaching a grandchild how to ride a bike with a joyful "keep pedaling!" or simply showing up with a smile and a story.
Frank was first married to his beloved wife, Leesie Schneider, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised ten children and built a family grounded in faith, hard work, and love. Later in life, Frank married Irene Schneider, who survives him.
Frank is survived by his brothers Roy and Paul and his children: Victoria Lamar (Kevin Grayson), Alaina Deccio (Ted), Joan Martelli (Phil), John Schneider (Tammy), Doris Sanders (Dan Mayfield), Robert Schneider (Diane), Rena Schneider-Crawford (Kevin), Julie Patnode, and Angela Haubrich (Wayne). He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Schneider (Sandy), and his grandson Joe Deccio.
He was blessed with a large and loving family, including 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, a rare gift that brought him immense pride and joy. His legacy lives on through each generation.
Those who knew Frank will remember his integrity, compassion, fairness, and kindness, as well as the heartfelt conversations that made everyone feel seen and valued. While hearts are heavy, his family finds comfort knowing he has returned home to God, whom he served so faithfully throughout his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral in Yakima, Washington, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery.
Frank will be dearly missed and forever loved. His family rejoices in the promise that they will meet him again in heaven.
