Bill Kreitner

My first memory of Frank was watching the US Navy Concert Band on tour. My older brother, Larry Kreitner, was also in the band, and whenever my parents could attend a concert we were there. As a young fairly serious drummer, I was always blown away by the members of the percussion section, particularly Frank twirling the bass drum beater. I eventually joined the band and was thrilled to march in several ceremonies with Frank and the Navy Band. May Frank rest in peace. Bill Kreitner

Although Frank's time and my time at the Navy Band were not the same, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting him as part of the Navy Band Alumni. He was a warm and wonderful gentleman, sharing stories of his time in the band with others. Always enjoyed seeing him perform on bass drum at the Alumni Concerts. A great shipmate, I know he will be missed by many. Rest now Frank but save me a seat in the band. Well done! BZ.

Favorite memories of Frank had to be tour stories. My brother George (Bill) Palmer served with Frank from 1960 on until his retirement around 1972. I had been in the band since 1969 serving with them both for several tours until my retirement in 1980. Always a positive influence usually with a comical solution to the many tour situations. A truly great friend not to be forgotten, we'll all miss you Frank. Bob Palmer

Frank was in the Navy Band, when I became a member in 1967. I have fond memories of looking over from the clarinet section, and seeing Frank playing the bass drum. He really seemed to enjoy what he was doing, and he really added class to the percussion section, and the band. Frank was a very kind and gentle person. It was an honor to play along side of him. I remember Frank playing the bass drum and twirling his mallet like he used to see Hap Spalding do. Frank was a very fine man and shipmate.
