Frank L. Stenger, age 80, of Kickapoo, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 in Peoria, IL.
Frank was born on July 20, 1945 in Peoria, Il, a son of Frank J. and Sophia (Schimmelpfennig) Stenger. He married Dorothy Ludolph on July 23, 1966 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo, IL. She survives. Also surviving are their children, Todd (Tina Campbell) Stenger of Peoria, IL, Julie (Tom) Zielinski of Cary, IL, and Lori (Eric) Humbles of Cary, IL, two grandsons, Connor and Ryan Zielinski, granddaughter, Violet Humbles and one sister, Bette (Joe) Lowry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, granddaughter, Lucy Humbles and sister, Carol Schmitt.
Frank graduated from Spalding Institute in 1964 and joined the US Navy, where he proudly served his country, on the destroyer, the USS Waldron DD699. In his later years, he became a member of the USS Waldron Alumni Association and attended many ship reunions in different cities across the country. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Brimfield, IL. Frank was a member of IBEW Local 34 and was owner of F.L. Stenger Electric from 1972- 1985 and then worked for Oberlander Electric, until retiring in 2005. Frank was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo, IL.
Frank felt most free when riding his Harley-Davidson and watching the TT Races. In retirement, he and Dorothy began to travel. His favorite trip was to Germany, with his cousins, where he visited the areas his ancestors lived.
The Stenger family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for the love and care they showed to Frank and the rest of the family.
Cremation Rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at St. Mary's Parish Hall. Further visitation will be from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM on Friday, December 5, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Kickapoo, IL. Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 AM on Friday, also at the Church, with Fr. James Pankiewicz officiating. Burial of Ashes will follow Mass at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
