Frank Truman, 78, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at home with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 54 years the former Sharon Shaffer. They were married July 5, 1969.
Born February 16, 1945 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Francis J. "Hard Coal" and Madolyn Neutts Truman.
Frank was a 1962 graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale, and graduated from Bloomsburg University with a B.S. degree in secondary education. He also earned his master's degree in education from the University of Scranton. Frank retired in 2004 after 38 years as a teacher, football and health and strength coach from North Pocono School District. After retirement, he then worked for 10 years as a TSS for Tri County Special Education, Carbondale.
Frank was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Monsignor Farrell Division, a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and very proud of his Irish heritage. He was an avid reader, enjoyed target shooting and was a Penn State fan. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Traditional Hospice for their excellent care, as well as Frank and Rita and Michelle Bannon, Sid Witts, Amy Laguzzi, and Robert and Jacky Lee Devroe for their kindness and friendship to Frank and Sharon over the years.
He is also survived by two daughters: Lori Truman-Kraft and husband, Jason of New Hope, PA, and Amy Lisson and husband, Gregg of Bethlehem, PA; six grandchildren: Benjamin, Samuel and Sophia Kraft, Nicholas, Emma and Caroline Lisson; one sister: Mary Comaratta of San Diego, CA and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial was held Friday, January 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Damien Larkin, David Sutton, Thomas Moffitt, James Kelly, John Osborne, Bo Tyrell, Harry Smith and Richard Burnett.
Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Monsignor Farrell Division and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.
A viewing was held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Ancient Order of Hibernians will conduct a service at 9:45 a.m. in the church.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's name were sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

We send our condolences to Frank's family. He was a great teacher, coach, and friend. He was always kind and had a wonderful sense of humor. Our son was a student and athlete who benefitted from his guidance. May he rest in peace. The Pinataro Family
