Frank Yang Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2025.
Frank Yang passed away unexpectedly in December 2024 at age 73 at his home in Mount Gilead, Ohio. Frank will be remembered by those who knew him for his keen mind, generosity, and kind heart. He was born in 1951 in Urbana, Ilinois, eldest child of Chen Ning and Chih Li Yang. After graduating from the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, Frank studied computer programming at the University of Michigan. Frank always had an unquenchable thirst for excelling at games, and solving challenging puzzles and problems. He was a Life Master at Bridge and was mentioned many times in the Bridge column of the New York Times. Frank created computer models of horse racing and breeding, and developed a winning betting system. His interest in horses led him to the sport of dog agility training through which he met his life-partner Annie Wanzyk. Frank and Annie moved to Marengo, Ohio, where they established a successful and popular agility training program. They trained their numerous dogs including AKC National Agility and USDAA Grand Prize winner "The Flash". After Annie passed away, Frank remained devoted to his dogs, and took on new challenges of building and racing drones, and driving his 486 HP Ford Mustang. Until the very end Frank had a fulfilling life, most recently challenging the norms of computer architecture and design, and getting a patent on his inventions to make computers more efficient. Frank is survived by his father, brother and sister, and other relatives. There will be a memorial service on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 1 PM at the Hilton Columbus/Polaris 8700 Lyra Drive, Columbus, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The National Canine Cancer Foundation and the Humane Society of Morrow County.

Grateful to Gil Yang for letting me know, I recall with warmth the young Frank I knew as a summertime "mother“s helper" for his wonderful parents. Frank always had a clever fun comment or action to enliven the days, and reading about him as a adult was a joy. He was remarkably kind and thoughtful even as a teenage boy, and I am saddened at his sudden passing . Sincerest condolences.

Dear CK, you taught me how to play chess when I was a freshman at Lawrenceville. I was so impressed with you playing chess w Bertie Barois on the way to class , yelling the moves to each other as you walked along. Your brain was inversely proportionate to your height!! RIP my friend!!

I am sorry for your great loss. I hope that the promise found in Hosea 13:14 can bring you some comfort. Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring and perhaps sustain you during this difficult time.
