Frank Zumbo

Frank Phillip Zumbo was born a twin at home on May 19, 1917, in West Harrison, New York to Consulta Malara and Anthony J. Zumbo. Frank attended Underhill Avenue School and Samuel J Preston School in Silver Lake. He also attended White Plains High School before working his first job at a macaroni factory on Lake Street in White Plains. He was a ballplayer and enjoyed baseball for the entirety of his life. Frank was drafted into the US Air Force in 1942 and served as an airplane mechanic for three and half years. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Rose Buzzuro. They were married in 1948 and created a home in Silver Lake together, complete with three sons, (Anthony, Frank Jr., and John Zumbo), PJ their dog, a beautiful garden and one of the first pools to be built in "The Lake". For over 30 years, Rose and Frank vacationed every summer in Wildwoodcrest N.J. It is here they shared some of their fondest memories with their children and grandchildren (Rachel, Nicole, Michael, Brittany, Johnny, and Zachary). Franks's family never heard the couple address each other by their first names, instead, they affectionally called each other "Hunny". Frank and Rose shared their life together for 69 years before Rose passed away in 2015.

As a skilled tradesman after the Air Force, Frank went on to work at The Greeley Country store, in Chappaqua. It was there that Frank worked as both a salesman and machine mechanic (and overall jack of all trades) until he retired well into his 80's. His passion for fixing things was remarkable. He was always determined to extend the life of any object deemed unfixable. He never gave up on something he was working on and could fix almost anything. Many of his lifelong friendships were born during this time in Chappaqua. He was always well-liked and respected by the community. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to neighbors, friends, and family who needed his expertise on a project or could use his massive tool
collection.
Frank was a simple man with simple tastes, who enjoyed watching The Yankees and Giants (as long as they were winning) and spending hours in his garden in the spring and summer and playing with his great-grandchildren (Rose, Ripley, Thomas, Mickey, and Nina). He loved sitting on his porch on warm summer nights enjoying the breeze and the sound of St. Anthony of Pauda's church bells. When asked on his 100th birthday what his secret was, his answer was simple, "homecooked meals and wine." Silver Lake was the only home Frank ever knew, and he loved it. Frank died where he was most comfortable, in his home surrounded by his family. His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with the love of his life Rose, and their son John. His lively young spirit will be missed by all those who have had the honor of knowing him.
