Ernest Franklin “Frankie” Cason, Jr., 71, of Homerville passed away Monday morning, September 18, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Homerville to the late Ernest Franklin Cason, Sr. and Edna Grisham Cason and lived here all of his life. Mr. Cason graduated from Clinch County High School in 1970. He retired from the Clinch County School System in 2003 where he was Custodial Manager at the high school. For many years, Frankie and Elroy Griffis were the Voice of the Panthers on the radio calling all sports which he enjoyed very much. After retirement, he served as a Sheriff’s Bailiff for several years. He was a member of Homerville United Methodist Church where he served as Head Usher, a job he really enjoyed, and attended the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group. Over the years, Frankie always loved to spend vacation time with his travelling buddies, Mike and Teresa Corbitt, going on cruises and driving out west or flying up north.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Eric Waterfield.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patsy Corbitt Cason of Homerville; two daughters, Kristie C. Waterfield of Springfield, GA, Shannon and Mikey McCoy of Fort White, FL; five grandchildren, Olivia and Maddux Waterfield, Mikah, Griffin, and Cason McCoy; one sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Herbert Tomlinson of Homerville; niece, Natalie and Dave Vondersmith and their daughter, Julia and Parker Armstrong ; nephew, Clay and Emily Tomlinson and their children, Noah and Carly Tomlinson; several other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11 am at Homerville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Homerville United Methodist Church.
The family requests the honorary pallbearers to be the Clinch County Class of 1970, Wednesday Morning Prayer Group, Winston Peterson, Gary Owens, Jeff Helms, Andy Latham, Jerry Edwards, Dan Galvin, Len Robbins, Wesley James, and Hal Peagler.
