Mrs. Frankie Hines Joyce, 97, of Westfield, passed away Tuesday evening, September 10, 2025, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Frankie was born April 15, 1928, in Stony Point, NC, one of four sisters born to the late Derr Lynn Hines and Grace White Hines. In addition to her parents, Frankie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Wayne Joyce; and three sisters: Doris Martin, Ruth Martin, and Lois Hines.
She spent her early years as an administrative assistant and after raising her family she contributed to her church community by working as a preschool teacher at Sedgefield Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC. Frankie was a talented and creative individual who enjoyed ceramic and tole painting, knitting, and basket weaving. In her free time, she also enjoyed a challenging puzzle and was an avid reader. Frankie enjoyed sharing the beautiful view from their home when she hosted family and friends. She was an active member of Asbury Presbyterian Church for 35+ years.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and David Wheeler and Laura and Mark Gibson; a son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Sonia Joyce; her grandchildren, David (Angela) Wheeler, Jason (Chelsey) Wheeler, Tracy (Brandon) Davis, Cienna (Nate)Yawn, William Gibson, and Jack Gibson; her great-grandchildren, Ayree Davis, Chapel Davis, Trinity Wheeler, Libby Wheeler, and Wyatt Wheeler; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Frankie’s life will be held on September 17, 2025 at Asbury Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Terry Collins and the Rev. Rickey Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church, with the service to follow. The burial will be in the church cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 7, Westfield, NC 27053. Moody Funeral Services in Mt. Airy is serving the family.
