Frankie Langley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stewart Family Funeral Home - Tyler on Mar. 9, 2026.
Frankie "Rick" Richard Langley, 81, of Troup, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Tyler, Texas.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Rick was born on March 5, 1945, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to Jesse and Mirtie Jennings Langley. He grew up in Houston, served his country in the United States Air Force, and later graduated from the University of Houston with a master's degree in education.

He spent his entire professional life doing what he loved most-coaching and mentoring young people. Winning was certainly a hallmark throughout his career, but student-athletes from St. Matthew's, C.E. King, Tyler Junior College, Commerce, and Palestine would tell you his greatest victories happened off the field. Rick impacted generations of players not only by teaching the games he loved, but by sharing life lessons about hard work, character, and perseverance.

Whether you knew him as Coach, Tricky Ricky, Old School, or Mufasa, you likely remember his witty one-liners, his toughness, and the way he made people feel valued and welcome. He had a special gift for lifting others up and making them feel important and loved, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Whether he was sharing "mostly true" stories, attending ballgames, or spending time on the lake, Rick cherished the simple moments with family and friends. He especially loved fishing trips with his sons, grandchildren, and buddies. When he wasn't on the water, you could usually find him near a football field or gathered around a table with family and friends enjoying good food, laughter, and conversation. His sense of humor will be remembered by many-and some of his jokes were even almost appropriate.

Rick shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Ann Mullins Langley, who remained faithfully by his side through every season of life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mirtie Langley, and his brother, Charles Langley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Langley; his sons, Brad Langley and wife Amy, and Matt Langley and wife Rebekah; and his five grandchildren, Brayson, Landry, Ty, Andrew, and Emma Kate, whom he adored. He is also survived by his brother, Roy Langley and wife Betty; his sister, Darlene Langley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rick's family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who went before him. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach, and friend.

Well done, Coach.
