William "Frankie" Ray, 91, of Richmond, KY, passed away on Thursday, March 5th, 2026.

He was born on March 19th, 1934, in Richmond, Kentucky to Zella Barnes and Samuel Ray.

Frankie served in the United States Army after high school. After he returned from service, he attended and graduated from Eastern Kentucky State College and worked as teacher in the Madison County school system. He was known for his love for coaching, fishing, running with the 'Hager Hobblers', and sports trivia. He was a 2013 inductee into the Kentucky Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame and a 2025 inductee into the Madison County Sports Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his sister: Carolyn Whitaker; daughter: Connie Ray Harrison; granddaughter: Sarah Harrison-Hart (Bryan); grandson: Josh Ray (Brandi); great-granddaughters: Lillian, Sadie, and Ellie; and great-grandsons: Damien and Reid.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Ray and Zella Barnes; his brothers: Jimmy and Johnny Ward; his wife Georgia "Peggy" Ray; and his son, Daniel Ray.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 13, 2026, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, Kentucky 40475. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 PM-8PM Thursday at the funeral home.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
