Shirley Ruble Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home on Mar. 7, 2026.
Shirley Irene Hymer Ruble, of Scott County, Kentucky, left this world to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Shirley, the daughter of the late Johnnie Godfrey Hymer and Almedie Lainhart Hymer, was born in Madison County on June 11, 1937. She was a devoted, hard-working Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who dearly loved her family.

You could often find her tending her garden or listening to her favorite gospel group, The Isaacs. Shirley was always there for her family without exception. If someone needed a place to stay, she opened her home. If someone needed a babysitter, she was there. When her brother Johnny had a need on the farm, Shirley was often the first one to the field-whether it was setting tobacco or working cattle. No matter the heat or the cold, she was willing to show up and get the job done.

Shirley loved to quilt and shared many of her quilts with her family. Even in her later years, when she was no longer able to do many things, she could often be found sitting in her recliner with a blanket in her hands, gently moving her fingers as if she were still stitching a quilt.

On November 3, 1960, Shirely united in marriage to Willie Ruble who preceded her in death on April 10, 2003.

Survivors include: three daughters: Mona Ruble (& Jimmy) Doolin, Virginia Ruble Mitchell and Angela Ruble, one brother: Johnny Hymer Jr., her grandson: Bryan (& Kristy) Sharp, her great-grandson: Kaden Sharp, her brother-in-law: Robert L. Harrison and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ruble was preceded in death by her sisters: Bonnie Hymer Cox, Katherine Hymer Bach and Laura Hymer Harrison; one brother, Harold Hymer; and her son-in-law David Mitchell.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 12: PM Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

The funeral will begin at 12:00 PM Tuesday with Bro. William "Bill" Boldt officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Sharp, Kaden Sharp, John Hymer, John Taylor Hymer, Jeff Abrams and Alan Perkins.

Shirley will be missed by all that knew her. She loved her Lord and her family like no other. Perhaps the best way to sum up Shirely Irene Hymer Ruble's life is simply - "She was always there!"
