Melvin Diaz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home on Mar. 7, 2026.
Melvin "Mel" Diaz, 49, of Brentwood, New York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Livingston, New Jersey.

Melvin was born on December 6, 1976, and was raised in a loving and nurturing home in "Regis Park" alongside his brothers and sisters by his mother, Magali, and stepfather, Maximo. His childhood was filled with school days, lifelong friendships, and cherished memories that shaped the man he would become.

As a young man, Mel moved from Brentwood and made a home in Richmond, Kentucky, where he experienced one of the greatest joys of his life - the birth of his daughter, Madison. There, he built a life and wove together a family that became the very heartbeat of his world.

Melvin began his career as a long-haul truck driver out of New Jersey, transporting cars across the country while embracing the freedom and solitude of the open road. His boss, Gary, was more than an employer - he was a trusted friend and brother who stood by Mel through life's highs and lows.

Those who knew Melvin will remember his love of lively conversation and his fascination with conspiracy theories. He was never afraid to play devil's advocate, often challenging others to see a different perspective. Whether the topic was serious or lighthearted, he enjoyed spirited debates and had a way of making every discussion memorable.

Beneath that bold exterior, Mel had a sensitive and thoughtful heart. This was evident in the videos he created and shared on social media, reflecting on life's triumphs and struggles. He understood how delicate life can be - sometimes expressing it with humor, other times with quiet sorrow and reflection.

Survivors include: his daughter, Madison Diaz (Billy Brown); bonus children, Jaylynn Kindred & Brayden Kindred; their mother, Michelle Poynter; his much anticipated granddaughter, Baylynn Brown; bonus granddaughter, Laiton Johns; his mother & step-father, Magali & Maximo Martinez; his father, Amado Diaz; siblings and bonus siblings; Madeline Diaz (Robert), Alvin Diaz, Yrannia Martinez, Leyni Pineda (Ruben),Yosmery Martinez, Geraldo Martinez (Ayrelle), Amado Diaz, Jr. and Ligsia Diaz; best friend and confidant, Gary Sayal and family; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, bonus family and dear friends who opened their hearts and homes to him as he traveled across the country.

Melvin's passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who loved him.

Memorial Services will be held at 5:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation starting at 3:00 PM Saturday.
