Franklin D. Cummings

Franklin Dale Cummings, 88, passed away peacefully at Covered Bridge Health Campus on April 3, 2025, surrounded by members of his loving family and caregivers. He was born at home in the Maumee area of Jackson County on July 25, 1936, to the late James W. "Buck" and Helena "Babe" (Lutes) Cummings.
Frank graduated from Clearspring High School in 1954, then played basketball at Purdue University under Coach Ray Eddy, and graduated in 1958. Frank married Patricia Anne Ahlbrand on November 26, 1958, in Brownstown. He taught and coached at Clearspring High School, supervised the State Board of Tax Commissioners, raised pure-bred champion Hampshire breeding stock, appraised and sold real estate, founded GFC, llc, as a consultant, software developer, and advisor for local state government, and finally retired in 2016. He enjoyed memorable trips to Canada, Brazil, Holland, Germany, Mexico, and many places in the United States so much that he often retold hilarious tales. Frank was an active member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #146, Surprise Christian Church, Sons of the American Revolution, Varsity P Club, John Purdue Club, and Purdue Club of Jackson County. He remained an avid reader of histories, westerns, and family lineages.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Pat Cummings; children Dave "Buster" (Mary Lou) Cummings, Kay (Daniel) Cummings, Denise Mullikin, and Reuben (Robin) Cummings; grandchildren Katy (Bill) Geeslin, David (Jenna) Cummings, Dan (Alina) Cummings, Ty (Kari) Schwade, Laura (Stevie) Cox, Cody Schwade, Sean (Lauren) Mullikin, Sarah (Macon) James, Tiller Cummings, Delaney (Patrick) Cummings, and Cali Cummings; 12 great grandchildren, a sister Betty Taylor, a brother Dick Cummings, a sister-in-law Sue Ahlbrand, and many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Virginia "Faye" Arthur, James W. "Dub" Cummings III, Charles "Tom" Cummings, Robert "Bob" Cummings, Howard "H" Cummings, and Susan McCory; and brothers-in-law Jerry Ahlbrand and Dave Ahlbrand.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank's honor may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or a charity of your choosing. On Monday, April 14, visitation will begin at 11:00 AM followed by a Masonic Service at 12:30 PM and a celebration of life service at 1:00 PM at Voss and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 316 N.
