Franklin (Mac) MacArthur Hopkins, passed away on February 19, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on November 28, 1942, son of the late Herman A. Hopkins Sr. and Jewell Allman Hopkins. Mac was a dedicated family man.
Mac began his career as an electrician at Medlin Electric Service formerly in Mt. Pleasant. Then as a fabricator at Kerr Bleachery in Concord. He later worked as a machinist at Krimminger Machine Shop south of Mt. Pleasant.
Mac had a passion for working on hotrods, cars, motorcycles, old tractors, and go-carts. His love for machinery extended to welding. Mac's hobbies filled his life with joy and allowed him to share memorable experiences with family and friends, building not just machines but lasting relationships.
Mac was a dog lover at heart and took particular delight in raising Boston Terriers, often finding companionship and joy in their playful nature.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Hazel Foutz Hopkins, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Mac is also survived by his sons, Lloyd and Todd Hopkins (Tracy Allman), and his daughter, Cheryl Billings (Mike); brother Herman “Hop” Hopkins. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Chris, Angel, Tamisha, Lindsey, and Alyson; great-grandchildren, Lorelia, Destanee, Elijah, Faith, Owen, Juliette, Austin, Salem, and Kaelin.
Mac was preceded in death by his brother, Gary, and his daughter-in-law, Fruta.
Family and friends are invited to honor Mac's memory during the visitation on February 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM. Both events will be held at Gordon Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 8559 Cook St, Mt Pleasant, NC 28124.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s’s or the Kidney Foundation.
