Franklin L. Stephens, 90, passed away peacefully on July 28th, 2024, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Frank was born Dec 11, 1933, in Zanesville, OH to the late Walter and Helen Stephens.
He is survived by his spouse Yong Stephens, sister Linda Woodward (Jon), four children Mark (Helen), Kathy, Teresa (Charlie), and Thom (Gwen), six grandchildren, three nieces, and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn Stephens (Meloy) and his brothers Kenneth, Paul (Marilyn), and Terry (Jackie) Stephens.
He attended South Zanesville High School in Zanesville, OH. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War. He returned to the states after his tour attending The Ohio State University. After graduating college with a bachelor's in vocational education in 1962, he returned to service in the Air Force Reserve rising to the rank of Colonel.
In civilian life, he excelled as a high school teacher in math, science, and vocational education with the Cleveland Board of Education. He then pursued a master's in administration at Cleveland State University, which he used to acquire administrative positions. As a Director of Vocational Ed., Frank developed Woodland Job Center. He was principal and designer of the Aviation High School in Cleveland, as well as their chief pilot. Additionally, Frank was the Director of the Aviation Academy, Haney Training Center in Panama City, FL.
Frank loved everything about aviation, he flew and owned single-engine and twin-engine aircraft that he was very proud of. He was also very involved with Masonic organizations and was a 32nd degree and past Grand Master. Last but not least, he loved to golf and continued to play into his 90s.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 Racetrack Rd NW, Fort Walton Beach, FL on August 17th, 2024, at 11 AM.
