Franklin Stottle Obituary

Our beloved Franklin George Stottle passed away June 24, 2023 at the age of 89 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

He was born in Pittsfield, MA on August 23, 1933 to Ellis Headily and Caroline Irene (Mitchell) Stottle, and lived nearly his entire life in Dalton and Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

A 1952 graduate of Dalton High School, Franklin then pursued a career in electronics. He attended Massachusetts School of Radio and Telegraph in Boston from 1952 to 1954. After school, Franklin worked for WBRK Radio in Pittsfield.

Between 1956 and 1960, he worked for Sprague Electric in North Adams, MA. After his profession at Sprague Electric, in 1960 Franklin became a federal civilian service employee for Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Ordnance Systems Plant, Pittsfield, MA as an electronics technician retiring in October 1993. He and his family were greatly honored by his nearly 33 years of United States Government service for the US Navy. He often talked about his many adventures on submarines and tour of duties to Scotland and locations within the Continental United States.

On August 24, 1957, Franklin married Kathleen Marie Kilmer. Together, they had five sons: Timothy Edward, and wife Candace, of La Jolla, CA; Mark Laurence, and wife Margarette, of Casselberry, FL; Michael John of Arlington, VA; Kevin Richard of Dalton, MA; and David Franklin of Pittsfield, MA.

Besides his five sons, he is survived by his most loving, devoted, and caring wife, Kathleen, of 65 years. Also, survived by a sister, Phyllis Squires (Michael) of Colorado. He is blessed with a grandson, Cameron of Dalton, MA, and two granddaughters, Erica and Sydnie Stottle, of San Diego, CA, and a step granddaughter, Cayla Partridge of Florida. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Morgan A. Stottle in 1996.

Until his death, Franklin had been a resident at the Hillcrest Commons Skilled Nursing Center since 2021. Prior, Franklin had resided for over 50 years in Pittsfield, MA.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. on June 29, 2023 at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA, by Rev. Fr. Steven Montesanti, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a private internment immediately following at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will precede the service from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made out to to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pittsfield, MA or the Alzheimer's Association and mailed to Dery Funeral Home.

Dear Kathleen, family and friends of Franklin,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Franklin“s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor in the U.S. Submarine Force.
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
