Mr. Fred 'Randy' Brooks, age 63, of Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 in Rome, GA. He was born on September 23, 1960, in Rome to the late Fred Lee and Mary Montine Edwards Brooks.
Randy was a dedicated paraprofessional teacher at Rome High School. During his career, Randy was known for his unwavering love and support to students with behavior disorders and special needs. His work was not just a job but a ministry as the children he taught saw him as a father or grandfather figure. His impact on their lives resonated deeply within the school community. Randy was a member of Riverside Baptist Church for over forty years.
Randy's passion extended beyond his work as he found joy in various hobbies and interests. From watching sporting events ranging from golf to NASCAR, playing and coaching softball, to refereeing multiple sports - he embraced each moment with enthusiasm. Attending local wrestling matches with family brought him great delight. Among his proudest accomplishments were his beloved grandchildren whom he cherished dearly.
Randy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Melissa Brooks of Rome, GA; daughter, Miranda Tonner and her husband Andy of Rome, GA; brother, Ricky Brooks and his wife Nellie of Rome, GA; brother-in-law, Jeffrey Duncan of Rome, GA; sister-in-law, Robin Clark and her husband Chad of Rome, GA; grandchildren: Angelina Rhodes, Abigail Wilbur and Ava Wilbur; he also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Lee Brooks and Montine Edwards Brooks, and a sister Deborah Atkins.
Funeral services for Randy will be held on Thursday afternoon, July 25, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Lambert officiating. Andy Tonner, Joe Finger, Al Finger, Clay Hutchinson, Joe Williams, Cary McCullough, Michael Skeen, Chad Clark and Hunter Clark will serve as pallbearers. His softball teammates will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Randy’s family will receive friends at Riverside Baptist Church on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations to one of the following organizations in Randy’s Honor: The American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association or The Epilepsy Foundation.
Salmon Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Mr. Fred Randy Brooks.
