Fred “Bud” Plapp, 87, of Lynn Center, IL, passed away February 14, 2025, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday February 20, 2025, at Swedona Lutheran Church, 1493 Knoxville Rd, Lynn Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at the German Cemetery, Sherrard, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church or the Sherrard Fire Department. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family. 

Bud was born on July 9, 1937, in Moline, the son of Frederick E. and Bertha (Wardlow) Plapp. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Army. He married Barbara Bruner on July 17, 1959, in Milan. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2018. Bud worked as a steam fitter for Local Union 25 and Ryan and Associates, retiring after 35 years. He had 55 years with the union. He was a member of Swedona Lutheran Church. Bud enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife Barb and going out to eat. Bud loved being on the family farm, mowing his yard, and his dog, Katy.

Survivors include his children, Karen (Ed) Zwicker, Litchfield, Judy (Chuck) McCoy, Rapids City, and Fred (Lisa) Plapp, Cable; grandchildren, Ryan (Teri), Tia, Jake, Hannah, and Caleb; great grandchildren, Ayva, Cameron, Antigone and Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, Barbara Thompson.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his neighbors, especially Tonya Williams and Roger & Robyn Secymore, for all their help and support.
