Fred A. Cloyd, 93, passed away on August 27, 2025. Born on April 26, 1932, he was the founder, owner, and operator of Dixie Truss Company, Inc., a business he built with his own hands and passed down to his children, who proudly continue his legacy. Fred faithfully served his country in the United States Navy. A man who enjoyed the simple things in life, he enjoyed square dancing, flying, traveling, and going on countless cruises with his beloved wife of 74 years, Gerry Sherman Cloyd, who preceded him in death. Though quiet and humble, never seeking attention, Fred enjoyed cheering on sports teams-especially University of Kentucky Basketball and the Oakland Raiders of the 1970s. He and Gerry were also "snowbirds," dividing their time between Kentucky and Florida. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and hardworking man who spent a lifetime providing for his family and teaching his children the value of work. He leaves behind two children, Karen Cottongim and husband Laddle, and Rick Cloyd and wife Debbie, all of London, KY; six grandchildren, Michelle Parker and husband Joe of Port Richie, FL, Tabitha Shannon and husband Brandon of East Bernstadt, KY, Megan Karr and husband Gary of London, KY, Austin Cloyd of London, KY, Dustin Cloyd and wife Celeste of London, KY, and Justin Cloyd and wife Moira of Lily, KY; eight great-grandchildren, Connor Messer and wife Lyjesta, Brody Cottongim, Evelyn Karr, Malachi Karr, Georgianna Shannon, Tobin Shannon, Levi Cloyd, and Braxton Cloyd; along with a host of other family and friends to cherish his memory. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, George Cloyd and Minnie Barnes Cloyd; two brothers, John Cloyd and Shirley Emerson Cloyd; and one sister, Jean Cloyd Collins. A funeral service honoring Fred A. Cloyd will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Dennis Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow at Rough Creek Cemetery in London, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m. until the service hour, also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
