John Edwin Cloyd, 80, of Versailles, Kentucky passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Born on October 19, 1944, to the late Edwin and Katherine Cloyd, John lived a full and vibrant life defined by his love for engines, the thrill of truck pulls and drag racing, and his deep connection to the outdoors. Whether turning a wrench, sharing stories at the track, or simply enjoying nature, John was most at home under the open sky. A naturally social and warm-hearted man, he never met a stranger and found joy in a life well-lived alongside his beloved wife, Jane of whom he celebrated more than 60 years of marriage with.
John's greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father to his daughter Becky (Rick) Davis of Versailles, and a loving grandfather to Meredith (James) Springate, Paige (Megan) Davis, and Aly (Toby) Davis. He embraced all of their friends as his own "adopted grandchildren," reflecting his generous spirit and deep capacity for love. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his two brothers, James and Jeffrey Cloyd. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where all who knew and loved John are welcome to gather and honor his memory.
Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolences and memories on John's tribute wall at www.BlackburnandWard.com.

Pastor Bill Boldt

July 24, 2025

To Jane and family. It was a joy to know John and to serve as his pastor. I trusted John's wisdom and his vibrant character. He was always at tentative to the messages I preached and said often how much he treasured them. I will miss him sitting on that back row seat with Jane with his arms folded and staying awake all during the service. When I asked him how he was doing, he always pointed up and said, "Ask Him".
