Fred A Friday

 

Fred A. Friday, 93, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

 

Fred was born to Lily and W.C. Friday on November 17, 1929 in Stanton, Alabama. Fred was a charter member of Westwood Baptist Church for over 50 years. He built over 300 houses in Selma and took great pride in his work. He was President of the Home Builders Association in 1968 and was home builder of the year in 1978. He was also an avid quail hunter who still enjoyed this hobby well into his eighties. He looked forward to every Saturday during hunting season getting together with his buddies to hunt quail and carry on with each other.  They were a tight knit group. Fred also raised cattle for over 70 years and won Cattleman of the Year in 2019.

 

He graduated from Parrish High School in Selma and married his high school sweetheart, Ann Powell. He enlisted in the Air Force and served in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service, he and Ann moved back to Selma where he started his cattle business and building houses.

 

Fred’s favorite role was being a grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his granddaughter, Ann Elizabeth. They had a special bond that continued throughout his lifetime.

 

Fred is survived by his wife, Ann, daughter Fran Yocum (George), his doting granddaughter Ann Elizabeth, brother Claude (Gayle) Friday, sister Erline Wiggins and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Lily and Willie Claude Friday, his stepmother Marjorie Martin Friday, sisters Ruth Ann Fisher and Dorothy Chambers, and brothers Ralph, James, Leo, and Wayne.

 

Funeral arrangements will be at Westwood Baptist Church on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00. Visitation will be at 10:00 prior to the service. Burial will be at New Live Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Westwood Baptist Church.

 

Pallbearers will be Zary Craig, Jimmy Friday, Burton Fisher, Michael Fondren, Harold Wyatt, and Reid Fondren.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be the Dick Bean Ready Sunday School class, Johnny Jones, Harold Speir, Harold Moseley, Sonny Pfeiffer, Robert Ingram and Jerry Little.

 

We would like to extend a special thank you to his wonderful caregivers, Estelle, Princess, and Alma. He was indeed blessed by these wonderful ladies.
