Fred Raymond Gangelhoff, 91, of Ocala, Florida went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, papa, papa-papa, and friend. His kindness, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.
He lived a full life of faith, devotion and service. For 40 years he was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church of Ocala, Florida. His love for God and his family was evident in all he did, and he often said that his greatest joy was seeing his children and grandchildren grow in faith.
Fred was born on July 24th, 1933 in Bemidji, MN to Fredrick and Hildagard (Loeffler) Gangelhoff. He graduated from Clearwater High School and University of North Dakota with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. He served in the Air Force from 1953-1957. His entrepreneurial spirit and his love for cutlery led to his invention of the Tru Hone Knife Sharpener. Tru Hone Corporation started in 1973.
Fred is survived by his children James(Pam), Jeff(Debbie), Joel(Joannie), Jason(Madilin) and daughter AnnMarie(Timothy)Staub, 18 cherished grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sister Sharon Gieseke(Arvin), sisters-in-law Doris Gangelhoff, Kay Gangelhoff and Lori Gangelhoff.
Stepchildren Diane Bohn(Jim), Brenda Stangel, Sue Hamre(Dave) and Wayne Bohn. Also, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Fred is preceded in death by son John, wife Barbara (37 yrs), and wife Elaine (21 yrs), his sister Lillian Howard, and brothers Ron, Delbert and Dave.
Dad was a man who embodied humility, strength, and a deep trust in the Lord. Whether it was his kindness to others, his words of wisdom, or his faithful prayers, he left an indelible mark on all who knew him. We are comforted in knowing he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A service of celebration for Fred's life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church, 1915 SE Lake Weir Ave, Ocala, Florida 34471. Viewing will be held from 12 noon and the service will be at 1 pm. Reception to follow at St. John Lutheran Church.
