Fred Miller Obituary

Published by Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home on Jan. 1, 2003.
Fred Miller, age 84, of Little Rock, passed away December 31, 2002. He was born in Houston, Arkansas February 14, 1918 to Paul and Julia Rehm Miller. His father died when he was just eight years old, and he witnessed his mother’s quiet strength as she raised their family. He assisted his mother and three brothers by working on the family’s farm. They raised peanuts, soybeans, and cotton. When asked about the farm, he said, “We never had any help outside our immediate family – chopping cotton was hard work.”

He was drafted into the Army in December of 1941 and was assigned to the Army Medical Service. During his time of service, he received many letters of appreciation. One letter of commendation written in 1957 cited the following: “Your deportment and conduct, on and off duty, and your devotion to family reflect nothing but credit on yourself and the Army.” He was honorably discharged from the Army in May of 1969 as Sgt. First Class. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean wars. He joined St. Vincent Infirmary in July of 1969 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He then established the Central Dispatch Department, and he served as Director until his retirement on February 25, 1983. He then took loving care of his wife, Estelle who passed away September 3, 1988. He continued to honor his wife’s memory with an eternal love and devotion for the rest of his life. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Miller will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2003 at St. Boniface Church off Highway 60, New Dixie with Father Richard Davis as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to St. Boniface Church, 20 St. Boniface Dr., Bigelow 72016.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, Custom Funerals & Cremation, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, 661-9111. To sign the online guestbook, visit www.griffinleggett.com.
