Fred David Self, Sr.
Fred David Self, Sr., 81, of Grover, NC, and a proud Charlotte native, passed away on August 16, 2023 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. Born in Rock Hill, SC, he was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ruby S. Wade, along with his siblings, Charles "Pete" Self and Anita Lyon. Fred was a truck driver with Southeastern Freight Lines, where he worked for over 30 years; it was his life. He picked up the name "Speedy Fred" and was known as the Westinghouse Blvd./Arrowood Rd. driver. After retiring from Southeastern Freight Lines, Fred went back and worked part time for a few years. He loved Jesus and attended King's Tabernacle in Stanley, NC. He was known for being helpful to everyone, arriving at church an hour early to clean up and open doors. He arrived everywhere early, a habit he developed as a truck driver. Fred was well-known for his kind smile. He loved football and was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers. He survived multiple bouts with cancer and remained steadfast in his faith, often quoting Isaiah 53:5 to his doctors: "By His stripes, I am healed." He was a proud father of sons who served their country honorably. Fred was a loving man who especially cherished his family.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Sunday, August 27th at 2:00 PM in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Pastor Richard Boatwright officiating.
VISITATION: 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM prior to the service at Harris Funeral Home.
