Fred Wayne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Home - Yorkville on Mar. 5, 2026.
Fred J. Wayne, age 96 of Yorkville, IL passed away peacefully at his home on March 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 26, 1929, in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Freda Wayne of Yorkville. He graduated from Yorkville High School in 1947.

He served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War as a motor pool mechanic. He was a member of the local VFW since 1953 and was a wealth of information about his service to his country.

Fred was united in marriage to Marie A. Fronek of Joliet, Illinois, on November 8, 1952, and spent the next 70 happy years together at their home in Yorkville. They were longtime members of Yorkville Congregational Church. Fred began the family business, Fred Wayne and Son Trucking, at the age of 19, serving Yorkville and the surrounding area. He delivered livestock to the Chicago Stockyards, and hauled gravel.

Fred and Marie loved to spend weekends with friends and family at their summer cottage in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, enjoying the lake and Wisconsin favorites such as Friday night fish frys, estate sales, flea markets and the beautiful views of Rock Lake.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife Marie, parents Arthur and Freda Wayne, brother John (Jack) Wayne and brother Tom Wayne. He is survived by his brother Bill Wayne (Rose), daughters Sue Williams (Jim) of Winfield, MO, Sharon Stevenson (Joe) of New Lenox, IL, Sandy Wayne (Bob Liden) of Mokena, IL and son Joe Wayne of Yorkville, IL, grandchildren Adam Stevenson (Alison), Justin Stevenson (Hanh), Jenna (nee Stevenson) Peterson (Kyle), Renee Liden and Laura Liden, and great-grandchildren Loïc Stevenson, Calvin Stevenson, Arden Peterson and Luc Stevenson and, his loving caregiver, Vita Hillmer.

Friends may visit March 15 from 3:00 until 7:00 at Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL.

A Funeral service will be held on March 16 at 10:00 at the Yorkville Congregational Church, 409 Center Parkway, Yorkville, IL. Interment will follow in the Cowdrey Cemetery, Yorkville, IL.
