Freddie Lou Chauncey Register, age 99, died February 21, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born October 31, 1924, to the late Minnie Rose Cribbs and Martin Chauncey in Fruitland, GA and was delivered by Minnie Jordan of Fargo, GA. She attended Echols County High School and always enjoyed gator hunting with her grandpa Cribbs when she was growing up in the flatwoods. She married Chandler Register, Sr. on September 7, 1944, in Hamilton County, FL by Judge Ernest Rutledge. Mrs. Register worked for Saint Regis Paper Company in her early 20’s as the fire tower keeper for the Pineland Division. Freddie and Chandler operated the commissary in Pineland, GA in the 50’s then downsized to Register’s Grocery until 1976. They also had a Bee operation until 1980. She was a housewife and mother of seven children. Mrs. Register was a seamstress, loved to fish and cook good meals for her family and anyone else that stopped by. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Chandler Register, Sr.; two daughters, Linda Lou Rainey Register Roberts Worth and Jacqueline Register Culpepper; two sons-in-law, Royce Ragan Roberts and Alton Hardee; one grandson, Caleb Wayne Culpepper (Jacqueline’s son); seven brothers and sisters, Martin (Betty) Chauncey, Dollie Mae (Acline, Sr.) Melton, Beulah (James “Buddy”) Carver, Isom (Shirley) Chauncey, Dud (Irene) (Wilma) Chauncey, JM (Mildred) Chauncey, Minnie Lee (Bonnie) Manac; one brother-in-law, James Allen Burks (Roselyn); one sister-in-law, Donna Chauncey (Johnny).
She is survived by five children, Audrey Hardee, Barbara (Jack) Evans, Chandra Denise (Kenny) Tutt, Chester (Joyce) Register, Chandler Register, Jr., all of Echols County; two sons-in-law, Leon Worth and Wayne Culpepper of Echols County; one sister, Roselyn Burks of Philadelphia, MS; one brother, Johnny (Liz) Chauncey of Enigma, GA; six grandchildren, Stephen (Kim) Tutt, James (Jessica) Tutt, Brent Worth, Elizabeth, Register, Chester Register, Jr. (fiancé Jade Williams), and Candacey (Ethan) Griffin; four great grandchildren, Kalynn and Adelyn Tutt, Samuel and Emma Tutt; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family would like to give special thanks to her loving and compassionate care givers, Sylvia Johnson, Marnie Flowers, Gloria Canteras, Jackie Ziegler, Michelle McCain, April Stalvey, and Belinda Krause. She loved them all as she helped people herself.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning, February 24, 2024, at 11 am at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Wayfare Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Roundtree Funeral Home.
