Freddy "Dean" Dennis, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born on October 7, 1941, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, Dean spent his childhood there and was the son of Marty and Ben Dennis.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2025, St. Ludmila Catholic Church, with Visitation held from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Luncheon will follow the Mass. Burial: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dean married his lifelong sweetheart, Karen Donohoe, on June 10, 1961, and together they celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Dean is survived by his beloved wife Karen; children, Dan (Donna) Dennis, Lisa (Chris) Atencio, Dave (Wendy) Dennis, Shelly Dennis, and Matt Dennis; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Darrel (Kay) Dennis and Marcia (Gordon) Thomas; many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Dean was a man of many passions and friendships. He was a skilled pipe fitter and retired as a service salesperson from Johnson Controls. He was very involved with the church, including being on the committee to build the new St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
Dean loved the outdoors and the camaraderie that came with it. He cherished Canadian fishing trips with his sons and grandsons and spent nearly twenty years wintering in Texas. He enjoyed golfing, billiards, and playing cards. Dean's sense of fun was matched only by his love of family and his deep faith.
Memorials in Deans name may be made to Camp Courageous.
