Frederic Fata, 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born and raised in East Harlem, New York City. In 1958, he met and married his wife, Gloria Velazquez, and they moved to Lyndhurst where they have lived ever since.
Fred was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He was selected to be the model for the Air Force Uniform, which he proudly served in. Fred was always a hardworking and industrious man. Alongside his brother, Nick, he worked at Washburn Wire Company, commuting daily together at 5 AM. He remained there until the company closed its doors.
Starting anew, Fred worked his way up to the position of Foreman for the Lyndhurst Department of Public Works (DPW), where Al Rapisardi gave him his start. After many years of dedicated service and forming friendships in the town he lived and worked in, Fred retired in the early 2000s. He then became part of the Nazare Memorial Home Inc., working as a limousine driver and funeral porter.
Fred will be deeply missed by his family and friends alike. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Gloria (née Velazquez); his loving sons Frank Fata and his wife Vicki, John Fata and his wife Kathy, Fred Fata Jr. and his wife Rena, and Michael Fata and his wife Lynette; his cherished grandchildren Gianna Gaglione (Michael), Frank Fata (Heather), Matthew Fata, Christian Fata (Cristina), Nicolette, Bianca, and Michael Jr.; his dear great-grandchildren Giuliana and Sofia; his sister Carol Domanico; her late husband Richard; sister-in-law Marie Fata; late brother Nicholas Fata; sister-in-law Geri Velazquez; sister-in-law Barbara (Jack) Price; and brother-in-law John "Butch" and Bonnie Velazquez, and his loving cousins, the Calbi's and DiPasquale's.
Fred's legacy of hard work, devotion to his family, and service to his community will be remembered with love and respect.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 3PM - 7PM.
