Frederic "Fred" Verspoor

Frederic W. Verspoor, age 78, a lifelong resident of the Ada and Lowell communities, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 under the loving care of his family following a brief illness.
The son of Leonard Marvin & Margaret (Tanis) Verspoor, he was born on August 28, 1945 and was a 1963 graduate of Lowell High School. Fred was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the United States Navy where he attained the rank of Shipfitter 2nd Class as well as acquiring the welding skills that he made a career with following his honorable discharge.
After 30 plus years of service, Fred retired from Price Industries in Dutton, Michigan Grand Rapids as a foreman in an occupation that served the aerospace, automotive, industrial, military and agriculture industries around the world. Fred was always to share his talents and tackle welding projects on the Wilcox Farm, friends' race cars, and anything else that could be welded. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing as well as hunting deer, turkey, coyote and an occasional woodchuck hunt around the farm
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his life partner, Mary Cook of Ada; his children, Jacob Verspoor of Grand Rapids and Julie Verspoor of Belding; two grandchildren, Trent Verspoor of Grand Rapids and Harley Watkins of Belding; a sister, Marsha Wilcox of Lowell; a niece, Lynn (Wilcox) & Scott Drown; two nephews, Mark & Kim Wilcox and Paul & Amy Wilcox; three great nieces and two great nephews; three great-great nieces; his life-long friend and "partner in crime", Jim VanderPloeg; and many other beloved family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to join Fred's family in celebrating his life from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 9. 2024 at The Dirty Shame Bar & Grill, 8124 Fulton Street (just east of Pettis Avenue) in Ada.
