Frederic Rahm "Fred" Wefelmeyer

Frederic Rahm "Fred" Wefelmeyer, 90, died Monday, July 28, 2025, at his home at New Perspectives senior care in Cloquet, Minn. He was born on Aug. 1, 1934, in Minneapolis, Minn. where he grew up and graduated from Washburn High School. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mortuary sciences and eventually started his own business, Wefelmeyer Funeral Home, in Cloquet, in 1961, successfully operating it until he retired in 1997. Fred loved to fish, hunt and dance to polka music with his wife of 67 years, Marylyn. They spent winters in Maui and traveled the world together in retirement. Fred was the lifeguard of the family pool at their rural Cloquet home where grandchildren were constant visitors. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Viking Shrine Club in Cloquet and served on the Cloquet Park Board, Kiwanis and Rotary in Cloquet. He also drove a school bus for many years for Cloquet Transit.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna Wefelmeyer; brother Ernest "Bud" Wefelmeyer; son Paul Wefelmeyer and daughter Carrie Martin. He is survived by his wife, Marylyn; sons Fritz (Cindy) Wefelmeyer of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Jeff (Nancy Ostman) Wefelmeyer of Cloquet; and daughter Ann (John) Myers of Duluth; daughter-in-law Penny DeMenge of Cloquet; son-in law Louis Martin of Covington, La.; grandson Guy (Sarah) Wefelmeyer of Cloquet; granddaughter Annisha (Jeremy) Fortune of Bentonville, Arkansas; granddaughter Morgan Wefelmeyer and grandson Paul Wefelmeyer of Cloquet; and granddaughters Maggie and Abby Myers of Duluth; and great grandchildren Kyla Fortune and Ava, Gabe and Gracie Wefelmeyer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 and continue at 11 a.m. until noon memorial services Tuesday Aug. 5 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Inurnment at a future date in New Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet. Memorials requested to Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Cloquet. In the spirit of Fred, please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt.
