Frederick Allan Ballinger, affectionately known as Fred, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, at the age of 68 after a battle with cancer in his hometown of
Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on March 17, 1957. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
Fred is survived by a loving family that was at the core of his proudly lived life. He was a cherished father to daughter Amanda Wesley, and her husband Jeff, of Brown County, and to son Zachary Ballinger of Ohio. He was an adored grandfather to Ty, Ely, Gabe, and Peyton, and a doting great-grandfather to Sebastien. His sister Patricia Gunder, nieces Jessica Fey and Melissa Gunder, as well as his half-sisters Brenda Ward and Ruby Patrick, and nephew Daniel Teachman will forever hold memories of Fred close to their hearts. The legacy of his kindness and zest for life will continue to flourish through them. Fred was preceded in death by his sisters Linda Jones and Edie Ballinger, leaving behind memories filled with warmth and laughter.
With a paintbrush as his wand, Fred created magic as a self-employed painter, transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary places with his keen eye for detail and color. His work brightened not just the rooms he painted but also the lives of those who occupied them. He generously shared his skills and insights, becoming a respected figure in his professional community. Fred's labor was not only a means to earn a living but a canvas for his artistic expression.
An avowed Indianapolis Colts fan, Fred's passion for his team was paralleled only by the enthusiasm with which he approached life. He could frequently be found at the local Waffle House, engaging in lively discussions over coffee and sometimes debating the merits of the Colts' latest game plan. As the sun rose, so did Fred's commitment to being surrounded by friends and the hum of communal life.
Fred's dedication to his yard was well-known among neighbors and friends. With meticulous care, he tended to every blade of grass and cherished each flower he nurtured into bloom. His yard was not just a testament to his diligence but a peaceful retreat reflecting his love for nature and the outdoors.
As we bid farewell to Frederick Allan Ballinger, we are reminded of the beauty and richness he brought into this world. His memory will continue to flourish in the hearts of his family, the vibrancy of the colors he loved to paint with, the excitement of football season, and the simple pleasure of a good coffee with friends at the break of dawn. Fred's presence on this earth was a gift, and his spirit will forever live on in the lives and landscapes he touched.
