Frederick Bogue Obituary

PAWCATUCK - Frederick James Bogue, 69, passed away in the comfort of his Pawcatuck home on Monday June 24, 2024. Son of the late Nathan and Letitia (Pellegrino) Bogue, Fred is dearly missed by his wife Jennifer (Gidman) Bogue; daughters, Meredith Bogue and husband Robert Mack Jr., and Rachel (Bogue) Goodman and husband Brad Goodman; and sister Mary Ella Dubreuil. Fred's four grandchildren, Eamonn, Gates, Freddie, and Gus were his greatest joy. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews from Maine to Tennessee.

Born at Westerly Hospital, and a 1973 graduate of Westerly High School, Fred received an associate degree in culinary arts from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI. He met his wife while working as a chef at Mystic's Seaman's Inn, and left restaurant life for work as a carpenter, as the work was better suited to raising his two girls. A true feminist, Fred proudly named his carpentry business Fred Bogue & Daughters.

Perhaps better known for his humanity than his skills, Fred is remembered fondly as a second dad to many of the kids he coached, mentored, gave a ride, or was just plain nice to. Fred's menu lives on at Bogue's Alley, the deli he and his wife, Jennifer, opened in 2004 as a community hub where customers could expect good food and a bad joke. He was Stonington Field Hockey's biggest fan, bringing the team lucky pennies before the start of each season for more than twenty years.

Fred's family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Westerly Pawcatuck community for a lifetime of good memories, and the team of medical professionals that gave him six years of laughter after being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Specifically, Dr. Benjamin Newton and Smilow Cancer Hospital. Donations can be made in Fred's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Stonington Field Hockey (checks can be made to SHS with "field hockey/Bogue" in the memo).

All are welcome at a memorial in Fred's honor which will be held at his home, 15 South Broad St. Pawcatuck, CT from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024.

To all of Fred's loved ones I send my sincerest sympathy and condolences. I have known Fred since we were young boys and though I haven't seen him in many years I always knew Fred to be the definition of a nice guy. I am saddened to learn of his passing. I can't even imagine that he was anything other than a positive influence on his children and grandchildren. May his memory be a never ending blessing for them all.

Dear Jennifer, Eamonn, Gates and Family, I want to let you know, that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I remember the night of our class reunion, in September 2023. I remember working with both of you at The Seaman's Inn in Mystic, Connecticut. There are many nice memories, of that time. In addition, I have fond memories of our conversation, at our class reunion in September of 2023. My favorite part of our conversation, was when I spoke of how amazing Eamonn and Gates are. They are both intelligent. I am always excited to engage in conversation with them. They are both two of my favorite students in school. I have enjoyed watching them grow up. You are in our Thoughts and Prayers. Sincerely, Gina and Samuel Alice
