Frederick J Casey, 83, of East Gull Lake, passed away on August 10, 2025 shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Fred was the son of Frederick J. (Fritz) Casey, Jr. and Irene (Crawford) Casey and was born in Brainerd on April 30, 1942.
Fred was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School in Brainerd, a 1964 graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and a 1967 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School.
On June 13, 1964, Fred married Mary Brooks of Moorhead, Minnesota. Following his graduation from law school, Fred and Mary returned to Brainerd where Fred practiced law from 1967 until 1993. He then served as a District Court Judge chambered in Crow Wing County from 1993 until his retirement in 2008.
Fred enjoyed traveling, reading, “coffee with the guys,” cruises in his Corvette in the summer and downhill skiing in the winter. His greatest source of joy, however, was his family. Whatever else he may have accomplished in life, it was his desire to be remembered first as a loving and devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather and great grandfather.
Fred is survived by his wife, Mary, his son, Paul Casey, and his daughters Kari (Temp) Russell and Jill (Aaron) Jordan. He is also survived by seven granddaughters, Brooke, Jordan, Katelyn (Connor) Epp, Ava Jordan, Addison Jordan, Amy Ulanowski, Holly Ulanowski, and Alice Lesch, and great grandchildren Marley Jordan and Kyeler Jordan.
There will be a visitation held on Monday, August 18th from 5pm – 7pm at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel. A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church of Brainerd, Mount Ski Gull or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
