Frederick "Freddy" J. Higgins, age 63, of Sagamore Beach, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10th, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of Sandra L. (Wilcon) Higgins.
Loving father of Daniel Jack Higgins of San Diego, CA, and Michael John Higgins of Sagamore Beach. Beloved brother of Tracy Ann Higgins and her partner Bill Enos of East Falmouth. Cherished uncle of Ryan Perkins, James Perkins, and Lindsay Wilcon. Son-in-law of Diane L. Wilcon and Fred B. Wilcon, and brother-in-law of James Wilcon and his wife Michelle, and Jon Wilcon and his wife Laura. Freddy is also survived by his faithful dogs, Tessie and Reggie.
Born in Boston on April 13, 1962, he was the son of Ann Marie (Carrigan) Higgins and the late Kevin J. Higgins. Freddy grew up in Needham and graduated from Needham High School with the Class of 1980. He later attended Trinity-Pawling School and graduated Saint Anselm College in 1985.
Freddy began his professional life as a Needham Police Officer, proudly serving from 1988 to 1996, before transitioning to a role as a court officer until his retirement in 2020. While his career in law enforcement was meaningful, his true passion was working as a licensed independent builder-a role that allowed him to express his creativity and strong work ethic.
In 1992, Freddy met the love of his life, Sandra. They married two years later and built a beautiful life together in Needham, raising their two sons with love, humor, and dedication. Freddy was deeply involved in his children's lives, especially through coaching their hockey and baseball teams. A lifelong hockey enthusiast, he played in numerous men's leagues and remained passionate about the game throughout his life.
Freddy also had a love for the ocean and spent many joyful hours boating out of Mashpee and Falmouth, sharing his love of the sea with family and friends. He became proficient at paddle boarding in the waters of Sagamore Beach.
Freddy will be remembered for his loyalty, his devotion to family, his sense of humor, and the lasting impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A visitation will be held at the Cartmell Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St. (NORTH) Plymouth, on Tuesday, July 22nd, from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm. Followed by a service in the funeral home at 12:00 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation https://glioblastomafoundation.org/ Or Compassion and Choices https://compassionandchoices.org/

I'm very sorry for your loss of Freddy. I was unable to attend services but I'm sure his hockey friends represented in numbers. We played at Bourne, Hyannis and Falmouth rinks. He was a top tier player and his family should know that, even at over 60 age.

Sincere condolences to the Higgin's Family , especially Sandy , my Vet who has been like a friend since I first met her . I lost a brother Jimmy who was only 67 to cancer , who like Freddie was a hockey player , tough thing to lose someone so young . Godspeed and fair winds to a guy I would have loved to have known .....
