Rochester – Frederick D. Jackson, 77, the heart of our family, passed away suddenly but peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 23, 2025. With his passing, the world lost a truly good man, a dependable presence whose reach could wrap his entire family in safety and love. Born in Biddeford, ME on August 4, 1948, to the late Richard and Hazel (Burke) Jackson, Fred spent his early life in Kennebunk, a town that instilled in him the steadfast Downeast values of his generation. He understood the importance of a hard day's work and was a provider in the truest sense: a dedicated employee for 31 years at the Granite Group and the kind of man you could set your watch by. When he wasn't working, he could be found enjoying the roar of a NASCAR race, a sound that took him back to his own days on the track at Beach Ridge or carrying on the family tradition of hunting alongside his children, grandchildren, family and friends. But his greatest joy was always his family. He had a big, infectious laugh, gave even bigger hugs, and was the steady anchor for everyone. Left to cherish the warmth of his memory is the family he so completely loved, beginning with his beloved wife, Amelia (Bryant) Jackson of Rochester, NH. His legacy continues through his children: Annette Jackson of Rochester, NH; Clayton Ball of Rochester, NH; Melissa Graves and her husband David of Rochester, NH; and Amanda Gallant and her husband Matthew of Barrington, NH. He was the proud grandfather of David, Alexa, D.J., Nicholas, Angela, Samantha, Savannah, Gavin, and Maxwell, and the delighted great-grandfather of Kai. He is also survived by his two sisters, Caroll Hanscom and Joyce Dowd, and many nieces and nephews. Fred is now reunited with those who passed before him, including his grandson Jordan and his two brothers, Richard "Dick" Jackson and Robert "Bobby" Jackson. Family and friends may visit Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 2 PM – 4 PM at the R. M. Edgerly Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A memorial service will follow at 4 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Legion Post 7 or another local Veterans Service in his honor.
